Martin Arkenstone completed a traditional education as a Stonemason in 1988. He attended the Kunstgewerbeschule (the art trade school) in Berne, Switzerland. During the following years, his field of expertise became restoration of historical, secular and religious buildings in Switzerland. Martin carves since 1999 custom stone work for interior and exterior designs, Celtic and contemporary sculptures
On his travels, Martin came in touch with the Indian Natives of North America and the growing Buddhism in Europe. He was allowed to spend some time with a Cherokee Shaman and a Shoshone elder. An encounter with the Dalai Lama heavily influenced his attitude of life. He feels great respect for these two different cultures and religions; however he had to realize his roots had grown differently.
Martin discovered the Celts, a culture and its religion that influenced Europe for thousands of years. The Celts were outstanding craftsmen and artists.
and had an advanced social structure (men and woman were treated as equal).Their religion was bound with nature and full of magic and miracles.
