Martin Amaze's stone sculptures portray traditional, as well as, visionary Celtic themes.
The closeness Martin feels to the Celtic world as a stonemason is reflected in his work. His inspiration is the historical Celtic standing stones and Celtic crosses from Ireland & Scotland, as well as , the La Tène Art known for it's spiral artwork. The illuminated manuscripts painted by Irish monks in the Medieval period and celtic artist’s like George Bain, Courtney Davis and Adian Meehan has also greatly influenced his style.
The intricately carved relief's are all hand sculpted from natural stones such as sandstone, limestone, marble and granite.
A great portion of these stones are imported from Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland. Some are recycled materials from historical buildings in Europe.
Common designs are interwoven ribbons and knot work that form labyrinth like motifs.
Among his sculptures are relief's lavishly embellished with gold leaf and colored with hand made oil paints.
